The concept is organized as an ensemble of dancing volumes containing theatres and dance studios inside a stage marked by raised rings containing administration and educational spaces. The foyer/cafeteria space floats in-between the dancing volumes and forms a 3 dimensional stage. Walls, ceilings, floors and balconies describing the space can be used as performance and/or spectator spaces. Creating a space with multiple dancing stages -horizontal and vertical- inside and outside the two theatre-volumes. The space opens up opportunities of having spectators standing on the balconies while dancers and musicians use the foyer floor, walls and ceilings of the theatre volumes as a 3d stage -or the other way around.

The foyer will be in connection with the amphitheatre on the Foothold Piazza further expanding the possibilities of performances inside and outside. The two theatres described in the program will be surrounded by a theatre defined by the parameter of the building and a larger theatre defined by the site with the river as background scenery. As the Russian nesting dolls, Matryoshka, the IWMC presents scenes within scenes creating an array of scenes in different sizes and formats giving rich opportunities for small and big performances as well as for traditional and experimental.

The dancing volumes wear different costumes depending on the function. The two theatres will stand as dark volumes decorated by prints and rhyth¬mic lines indicating the function, energy, character on display inside the the¬atre. The prints will likewise serve a decorative purpose in the 3 dimensional stages. The decoration could change over time or in connection with a special event in the IWMC.

The dance studios will have a transparent character so that they as the theatres express an energy and character of the performance, just not as prints but as animated bodies.
